Rev. Robert Davis Holmes

Rev. Robert Davis Holmes
June 22, 1927 to June 12, 2012

A beloved member of Westney and regular guest in the pulpit went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 12th, 2012.

Bob was born and raised on Moore Ave. in Toronto and suffered from polio shortly after graduating from Central Baptist Seminary in 1951. He overcame great odds to embark on a distinguished pastoral ministry serving long successful tenures in Baptist Churches in Ottawa, Victoria, Sarnia, Orangeville, and Saanich, and in denominational leadership in Toronto.

In retirement Bob was rarely out of the pulpit on a Sunday serving 15 years of interim pastorates at numerous places in British Columbia and Ontario. The suffering inflicted on Bob by polio and other medical conditions was transformed by faith into a great gift as he tenderly cared for others overwhelmed by life’s challenges. His gracious spirit, positive demeanour and faithful presence were a source of inspiration and faith to all he served and a shining example to his children and grandchildren. Bob fought the good fight and has finished the race looking only unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.  Our prayers are with his lovely wife Jean and the entire family.
